Reflections on the first snow of 09

20091219-DSC_0083

The first snow storm of this year, two thousand nine, has come and gone. Snow was blanketing the streets of downtown South Orange by Saturday’s nighttime. It was my first snowfall with Cambot Mk3 . With my Tripod and without, I had excellent opportunities to take pictures. It was also an excellent opportunity to gain Photo Fu knowledge . I was hoping for better pictures, but I did not get close enough with some of my subject matter. I also did not prepare sufficiently, but from time to time the most fun pictures are the ones you don’t really plan out.

On the twilight of the beginning of the snowstorm I, from my office window, took shots of the Gaslight pole and fire hydrant outside my house. The illumination of the gaslight made a nice ring and made a slight shadow on the fire hydrant. I had to bump the ISO to 800 and 1000 , and I also pulled out the tripod and remote shutter release . This allowed me to get nice streams of light from transient cars. I took a shot every few hours, till I got tired. I took a few more with the same setup the next morning. It was a nice study in light for me.

The Next day, while and after shoveling, I got to take pictures, of people, out doing the work that needed to be done. Digging out from the snow which extensively covered the area ,I now call home. Being cold and wet, I did this ever so quickly, moving from spot to spot in my van, getting shots of the kids sledding down the hill in Cameron park .I wish I would of gotten closer. I also took a small amount of pictures from South Mountain reservation. I hould have had my tripod with me. The Reservation was deceptively cold, but had the possibility for luxurious images
